Nalbinding

Nalbinding, or needle-binding, is more than a Viking craft done in Scandinavia. The craft predates knitting and crocheting, with the earliest examples dated by scientists at 6500 BC, found in a cave in Israel, and other artifacts have been found around the world. Many of today’s nalbinding stitches carry the name of the location of where an artifact was found featuring that specific stitch.

Using a flat needle and strands of yarn, crafters work off of loops on their thumb, tying knots to create a durable and warm textile.
